To get the husband to show affection to you, try not to ignore the affection and compassion between spouses, try to make your family happy and you will see the effect of that, if he cuts off ties with you then uphold ties with him; if he wrongs you, forgive him; if he speaks against you, in your absence or in your presence, do not respond in kind, rather forgive him, and deal with him by speaking kindly; if he shuns you and does not speak to you, then speak nicely to him, and greet him with Salam. If you respond to mistreatment with kind treatment, that will do a great deal of good.

The word Qiwamah as mentioned in verse 34 of Surat An-Nisa’ means that the man is in charge of the woman and has the authority to discipline her if he fears defiant disobedience on her part.

A woman’s mahram is a person whom she is never permitted to marry because of their close blood relationship or because of breastfeeding or because they are related by marriage.

1. Custody of the child is a right that is shared by the spouses if they are still married. If divorce occurs, then the mother has more right to custody. But if she remarries, custody passes to the next in line. 2. If the woman does not remarry and the child reaches the age of seven, if the child is male, he is given the choice between his father and his mother, and he will live with the one whom he chooses. However, if the child is female, there are different opinions regarding that. 3. Child custody ends when the child reaches puberty and the age of maturity, at which time he may choose whichever he wishes of his parents. The child also has the right to live separately from them if he is male. 4. Spending on the children’s maintenance during custody is the duty of the father.

If the father refuses to provide his children’s maintenance, he forfeits the right to custody, even if his refusal is aimed at hurting the mother. This indicates that he is not to be trusted to take care of his children’s interests. The mother has the right to ask him in court for maintenance of his children.

Breastfeeding establishes a Mahram relationship if it meets two conditions: 1- There must be five or more breastfeedings, and no less than that; 2- The breastfeeding must occur within the time when the infant is usually nourished by breastfeeding. However, Imam Ahmad ibn Hanbal states that the Mahram relationship is established if the child is breastfed within the first two years.

Breastfeeding in Islam is a proven right of the infant and must be provided for him by the one whose duty it is to do so. The scholars agree on the effects of breastfeeding in establishing the prohibition on marriage.

1- Khul’ means the separation of the wife in return for a payment; the husband takes the payment and lets his wife go. 2- The husband should take his payment or they should agree upon it, then he should say to her “faraqtuki” (I separate from you) or “khala’tuki (I let you go), or other such words.

It is not forbidden for a woman during the `Iddah of a revocable divorce to wear adornment, perfume, jewellery and other things that are forbidden to the woman who is observing `Iddah after the death of her husband. Rather, what is forbidden to her is going out of her husband’s house. Going out with men and speaking to them is forbidden in all cases.

If the wife is divorced before her husband had intercourse with her, she does not have to observe any ‘Iddah at all. If the husband had intercourse with her, she has to observe ‘Iddah in different forms.
