Ghusl is not required in the following cases: 1- every time one is going to meet people – it is encouraged to do Ghusl beforehand, 2- when undergoing any physical change, 3- for some acts of worship, such as doing Ghusl when entering Ihram.

Six things make Ghusl obligatory: 1- emission of semen, 2- penetration of the penis into the vagina, 3- when a non-Muslim becomes Muslim, 4- the deceased person must be washed, 5- Menses and 6- postpartum bleeding.

This is how to wipe over socks in wudu: put your wet fingers on the toes then pass them over the feet to the shin; the right foot should be wiped with the right hand and the left foot with the left hand. The fingers should be spread when wiping and it should not be repeated.

If your toe will not be harmed by water, you must wash it. If it will be harmed by washing but will not be harmed by wiping, you must wipe it. If it will be harmed by washing and wiping, and has been covered with a dressing, it is sufficient for you to wipe over the dressing.

With regard to the right arm which is broken and in a cast, it is sufficient, when doing Wudu and Ghusl, to wipe over it lightly so that the plaster will not be affected, and it can be wiped once only and does not have to be done repeatedly.

The view of the majority of scholars is that it is not allowed to wipe over thin socks, and that the permissibility of wiping over socks is limited to thick socks.

Some of the scholars regarded it as permissible to wipe over the Khuff even if it does not cover the ankles; this is the view of Ibn Hazm and was narrated from Al-Awza`i. Other scholars disallow that, as is the view of the jurists of the four Schools of Fiqh.

You can do wudu with socks on if the socks have been put on when you are in a state of purity and they are pure, and the wiping may be done within the time specified by Shari`ah.

If a person wears Khuff over socks, then he takes off the upper or outer layer of the two, if he wipes over it, then his taking it off does not invalidate his wiping, and he may wipe over the lower or inner layer until the end of the period for wiping over the Khuff or socks.

If the shoes cover the foot with the ankles, then it is permissible to wipe over them. But if the shoes do not cover the area that must be washed, then it is not permissible to wipe over the shoes.
