Working for a company that transports documents and parcels is permissible, but if the company specialises in transporting unlawful things, such as delivering documents for Riba-based banks, or transporting alcohol, movies or music, then working for it becomes unlawful.

1- Some jobs are haram in and of themselves such as working in riba-based banks and places where alcohol is sold. 2- Some jobs may be haram because of things in the work-place that are contrary to Shari`ah such as mixing between men and women, or because it is stipulated that one should wear haram clothing or do other things that are contrary to Shari`ah such as shaving the beard. It is not permissible for the Muslim to do either type of job. However, there are guidelines to be followed and some exceptions in cases of need and when certain evils are unavoidable.

1- Islam does not prevent one from seeking a high-status occupation and a good job. Rather Islam encourages that and urges Muslims to seek a better level and better situation; in fact, they should seek what is best and strive to attain it, on condition that they do not give precedence to that over their faith and pursuit of righteousness. 2- What many people think about some occupations – such as carpentry, blacksmithing and tending flocks – being lowly, is not correct, and to refute that view it is sufficient to note that these were the occupations and work of the best of Allah’s creation, namely the Prophets and Messengers (peace be upon them). 3- Seeking high status occupations and high status positions is not permissible except for one who attains them in a rightful manner and uses them in a rightful manner. 4- The fact that Islam urges the Muslim to seek the highest level in both religious and worldly terms is not contrary to contentment with the divine decree and what Allah has allotted to him, because one of the means of attaining that is taking appropriate measures.

1. Lawful work should be in a permissible field and should not involve helping others to commit unlawful acts such as working in buying and selling, and rental of permissible things such as selling food, medicine, tools and equipment, and the like. It also includes working in teaching, medicine, engineering, electricity, carpentry, and manufacturing, and innumerable other permissible types of work. 2. Prohibited work includes working in Riba-based banks or commercial insurance companies, or carrying alcohol, or raising pigs, or writing down contracts of Riba, or equipping places for gambling, or selling things that it is thought most likely will be used for unlawful purposes, such as selling weapons to bandits, and other things that are regarded as prohibited and sinful, or helping in it directly or almost directly.

1- Poverty is one of the calamities that Allah has decreed should happen, either to a specific person or a family or a society. Poverty has negative effects on people’s beliefs and conduct. 2- Islam fought poverty by: 1- teaching people that provision comes from Allah and that He is the Provider, 2- seeking refuge with Allah from poverty, 3- encouragement to work and earn a living, 4- making zakah obligatory on the rich, 5- encouragement to give charity, set up waqfs and sponsor orphans and widows, 6- prohibition of riba, gambling and deceit in selling, and encouragement to help the needy and support the weak.

There are several types of vows: 1- vows which must be fulfilled, 2- vows which it is forbidden to fulfill, 3- vows which require kafarat yamin, and 4- vows which you can either fulfill or expiate by kafarat yamin.

If the one who swears an oath says “In sha Allah,” he will not be breaking his oath (if he does not fulfil it) and he does not have to offer expiation. The same applies to vows.

1. If a person swore many oaths and broke them but did not offer an expiation for any of them, then there are two scenarios: 1- If the many oaths had to do with a single matter, then this requires one expiation. 2- If the oaths had to do with different matters, the majority of scholars are of the view that he must offer several expiations, and this is the correct view. 2. If you are not certain of the number of oaths, then try to work out the approximate number, then offer expiations for that approximate number. 3. If your relatives are poor and needy, and you invite ten of them to lunch or dinner, that will be sufficient as an expiation for your oath

Kaffarat al-yamin is: 1-feeding ten poor persons with the average kind of food that he feeds his family, 2- Clothing ten poor people, 3- Freeing a believing slave. Whoever cannot do any of the above should fast for three consecutive days.

Just as it is not permissible for a Muslim man to wear natural silk, it is also not permissible for him to sit or sleep on it or to cover himself in it like a blanket.
