It is recommended to shroud a woman in five pieces of cloth. This reflects her modesty and the respect accorded to her even after death.

It is better not to shroud a man in a chemise, rather he should be shrouded in three pieces of cloth which are wrapped around him, as was done to the Messenger of Allah but if he is shrouded in a chemise, it is permissible.

Shrouding the deceased in white cloth is a highly recommended practice in Islam, following the teachings of the Prophet Muhammad. Although using other materials is permissible, white is favored due to its purity and association with cleanliness.
